Terms and Conditions


Dogs are accepted for grooming at Barkers Dog Grooming under the following Terms and Conditions.


  1. Together with the groomer, the customer will fully complete a registration document for each of their pets to be groomed.

  2. This will be completed before any groom commences

  3. The customer is responsible to provide all information required. Failure to provide information that puts the groomer and others at any type of risk may be refused a service at Barkers Dog Grooming.

  4. The customer will sign the Registration Document as confirmation that all information has been provided as requested, and in acceptance of all terms and conditions of the salon.

Health, Safety and Welfare

  1. Our first concern is for the welfare of your dog and every care will be taken to during the grooming process.
  2. In the unlikely event of injury or serious concern regarding your dog’s health Barkers Dog Grooming will contact a vet. Unless it can be clearly evidenced that Barkers is liable, all costs in connection with and in carrying out treatment under the vets instruction shall be at the owner’s expense.

  3. Occasionally during grooming a pre-existing condition may be discovered which you may not have been aware of or have forgotten to tell us about. We will notify you of this so you are able to seek advice from your vet. The owner is responsible for notifying us of any pre-existing health conditions that their dog may have, of which Barkers cannot be held liable.

  4. The owner agrees to inform us if their dog has displayed aggressive behaviour and if it has ever bitten another animal or person. The owner accepts full liability for all bites caused by their dog. Barkers Dog Grooming Salon reserves the right to refuse to groom any pet for the safety of the groomer and the dog or others.

  5. Where a pet is accepted for grooming but subsequently displays behaviour of unmanageable aggression or anxiety during the grooming session and presents serious risk of harm to either the dog or groomer Barkers Dog Grooming reserves the right to stop the session immediately and the groomer will contact the owner to collect the pet. The full fee of the groom will be payable. A soft muzzle may be used where necessary.

  6. Where a dog does display aggressive or challenging behaviour whilst on the premises and/or during the groom process, and consequently causes itself (or other dogs or people) to be injured as a result of its behaviour, Barkers Grooming Salon cannot be held liable for any injuries the dog causes to itself as a direct result of its own behaviour. Barkers Grooming Salon will not be held liable for any costs incurred to the customer as a result of the dog causing injury to itself.

  7. As in 6 above, Barkers Dog Grooming shall not be liable for any costs or expenses incurred by the owner after they have left the Salon with their pet, and resulting from any accident and injury to the dog that originated at the Salon for which Barkers Dog Grooming is not responsible for.

  8. The customer is only authorised to access the front of premises area and must not enter the grooming area of the premises, unless expressly authorised to do so and in the company of one the groomers.

  9. The customer is responsible for the behaviour and actions of their dog whilst on the premises in the front of shop area, and until handed over to the groomer to be taken to the grooming area at the rear of the premises.

  10. Customers must be aware of other customers and their dogs that may be present on the premises at the same time, and to use reasonable judgment to avoid pets coming into physical contact with each other and thus prevent potential distress and injury.

  11. We clean and sanitise the grooming areas after each pet in order to promote effective Infection Control. We respectfully ask customers not to bring pets for grooming if they are carrying infection or other that could be passed onto other dogs or people.

  12. We respectfully ask customers to ensure as far as possible their dogs have been given opportunity to toilet immediately prior to their appointment.

  13. We appreciate customers pets may have an accident in the shop area of the premises. We accept this as an occupational hazard. However if your dog does have an accident the customer must inform the groomer immediately so the area can be cleaned. Wet/soiled floors can cause a slip hazard and cause other dogs and people to become soiled.

  14. Where customers attend with their pet in the grooming room for the initial consultation/induction process, customers must follow all instruction given by the groomer. In the event of Fire on the premises the customer must follow the groomer instruction to evacuate the premises.

  15. All grooming of a dog undertaken at Barkers Dog Grooming is entirely at the owner's own risk.


Salon Socialisation

  1. For no fee, we are pleased to offer your pet the opportunity to visit the salon environment prior to booking an appointment.

  2. We would organise a mutually convenient time for the visit and ideally when no other customer’s pets are present.


Dog Examination.

  1. At each grooming appointment Barkers of Gainsborough Dog Grooming Salon will examine your dog for any lumps, bumps and infections and will discuss these with you in a purely advisory capacity for you to pursue professional advice and support from your vet.

  2. We will automatically treat your dog if fleas or ticks are found. This carries an additional charge of £5 which also covers the cost of cleaning the salon.

  3. We will also notify you immediately because if there are fleas on your dog then there may well be fleas in your home.


Appointments and Timekeeping

  1. At Barkers Dog Grooming we have two groomers and groom by appointment only. Appointment length of time varies according to the type of groom required, dog temperament and coat condition. We therefore book appointment based on the length of time required for each dog.

  2. We do have some limited flexibility for customers who arrive early for their appointment, or who get delayed in picking up their pet as we now have room to hold pets in cages. However, we prefer to minimise the use of to prevent pet stress and anxiety. It is important for the owner to drop off and collect their dog at the pre-arranged times as punctually as possible.

  3. Once the dog has been groomed and whilst waiting for the customer to collect their dog, the dog will be kept in an appropriately sized cage in the rear of the premises. We will provide water for your pet during this time.

  4. Where a late arrival for an appointment impacts on the next customer Barkers reserves the right to cancel the appointment and advise the customer they need to re-book the appointment.

  5. Where an owner is running late we would appreciate a quick call to let us know. Late collections may also cause your pet to become anxious and unsettled.


Cancellation of appointments.

  1. We understand people’s lives are busy and appointments may need to be cancelled and rearranged on occasion.

  2. A fee will not be charged for cancellation of an appointment where a minimum 24 hours’ notice has been given.

  3. If a customer regularly misses their appointment or cancels with less than 24 hours’ notice we reserve the right to refuse your request for an alternative appointment. Alternatively we may request advance payment at the time of booking the new appointment.

  4. We can offer a free appointment reminder, by text or phone if this is helpful to you, by request.


De-matting of Fur

  1. On each appointment, Barkers Dog Grooming will check your pet for matting. Basic de-matting is included in the usual grooming process but is limited to a maximum of 15 minutes and is only possible if the matting is minimal.

  2. Excessive de-matting that requires additional time and effort will incur additional fees. The de-matting process required will be discussed and agreed, together with the fee, before work commences.

  3. In the event of severely matted/overgrown/neglected coats where the only humane method would be to clip down, the owner should be aware that irritation might occur from the shaving process. These matts tend to be located very close to the skin particularly around the ears, neck, armpits and groin. The owner accepts that Barkers Dog Grooming will not be held liable for any after grooming effects such as itchiness, skin redness or self-inflicted irritations/abrasions from excessive external rubbing or any problems uncovered on a severely matted or neglected coat.

  4. This treatment is not routine and your dog may look very different afterwards. We will, where reasonably practicable, seek the owner’s consent before carrying out the procedure.

  5. Severely matted coats can cause the dog to suffer greatly, restricting movement and preventing mobility, causing pain, skin conditions, and many more. In very extreme cases, matting of fur can cause limbs to be lost, and death of the animal. In compliance with The Animal Welfare Act (clause 5 - Animals are to be protected from pain, injury and suffering) any humane de-matting will be undertaken solely at Barkers Dog Grooming discretion.

  6. We will advise owners on the breed of their pet and their coats,  and how regular grooming, by professional groomers, and also in-between grooming and help the animal to be maintained in good  condition to be healthy and happy.

  7. Regular professional grooming on a dog with a coat that has been well maintained also makes grooming easier , and makes the cost of the groom cheaper for the customer.



  1. The pricing structure is based upon the premise that pets, in the first instance, are in a reasonable starting condition;

    • Pets have been professionally groomed on a regular basis.

    • Whose coats are maintained between professional grooms and kept matt free by regular brushing or combing.

  2. Where pets have not been regularly and professionally groomed and maintained the price of the groom will reflect the additional time, products and work required. The likely additional cost will be agreed with the owner prior to the groom commencing.

  3. Grooming prices will vary but will always be discussed and agreed with the customer before the groom commences.

  4. We offer a guide to prices dependent on type of groom required, and size of the dog, assuming the dog has been professionally groomed on a regular basis. The guide prices are displayed in the shop.

  5. Customers can telephone Barkers to request a quote for a groom. The price given will be based on the information given at the time by the pet owner, but may change if additional information about the dogs needs and condition is brought to the groomers attention at the time of the actual groom.



  1. Your dog may be photographed before, during and after its groom. These images may be used on Barkers Dog Grooming website/Facebook pages or other printed materials. Please notify us if you prefer your pet not to be photographed. A record of your request will be kept on you customer record card.


Privacy and Confidentiality

  1. Barkers Dog Grooming will retain and hold information as collected on the Registration Form in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

  2. Barkers Dog Grooming will never disclose or share any of your details to a third party other than your nominated vet. Your confidentiality is respected at all times.
